RENOLIT ALKORPLAN L range

A ballasted or protected roof implies that the roofing membrane is not fixed nor adhered to the roof structure. The membrane is loose-laid and covered with gravel, paving slabs, substrate, etc.

The ballasted system is suitable for warm or inverted roof constructions, on both new build and refurbishment projects. Although it is mostly used on concrete support, steel deck and wood structures are perfectly possible as well.

Thanks to the glass fleece reinforcing, the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN L range has excellent dimensional stability.

At the end of the roof’s lifespan, the membrane can be totally recycled.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Ballasted systems FAQs

A ballasted roof system is a type of flat roof build-up where the waterproofing membrane is loose-laid and held in place by gravel, paving slabs, or vegetation layers. Unlike adhered or mechanically fixed systems, it relies on weight rather than fixings or adhesives, offering a flexible and protective solution.

The ballast provides excellent resistance to wind uplift and protects the membrane from thermal stress, punctures, and UV exposure. As the membrane is not directly exposed to the elements, it experiences less ageing and degradation over time.

Ballasted systems are known for their quick and straightforward installation, as they require no adhesives or mechanical fasteners. The membrane is simply laid out and the seams are hot air welded, allowing work to proceed regardless of weather conditions, which is a major advantage on time-sensitive projects.
